Carla Martinez Machain, a political science professor at the University of Buffalo and a leading authority on the American military, will join the Paul Simon Public Policy Institute on Thursday, December 12 at 10 am CT for a virtual conversation. Professor Martinez Machain will speak with Institute director John Shaw about the wide reach of the U.S. Department of Defense and its impact in such areas as diplomacy and human rights. They will also discuss her teaching and writing about military affairs for both scholarly and general audiences. The discussion will be part of the Institute’s Understanding Our New World series.
A native of Mexico, Professor Martinez Machain has an undergraduate degree in economics and political science from Rice University as well as a master's degree and a doctorate from Rice.
