    Understanding Our New World - Samuel Freedman

    Samuel Freedman, an award-winning author, columnist, and professor, will join the Paul Simon Public Policy Institute on Thursday, October 19, at 10 a.m. CT as a part of our virtual event series "Understanding Our New World" to discuss the quest to advance civil rights in the United States.

    Freedman will discuss his book, “Into the Bright Sunshine: Young Hubert Humphrey and the Fight for Civil Rights,” with Institute director John Shaw.

    Freedman is a professor at Columbia University’s School of Journalism. He has been a staff reporter and columnist for The New York Times. He is the author of ten books, including “Letters to a Young Journalist.” 

    Freedman grew up in New Jersey and has an undergraduate degree in journalism and history from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
