Understanding Our New World with Paul Starr

Paul Starr, a Pulitzer Prize-winning sociologist at Princeton University and co-founder and co-editor of The American Prospect, will join the Paul Simon Public Policy Institute for a virtual conversation on Tuesday, December 9th.

During their discussion, Institute Director John Shaw and Starr will discuss Starr's new book, "The American Contradiction: Revolution and Revenge From the 1950s to Now." They will also explore the state of American democracy, the future of journalism, and the forces reshaping modern political life. Starr will draw on his decades of scholarship and commentary to examine how shifts in media, technology, and political institutions are contributing to polarization and weakening democratic norms. He will emphasize the importance of rebuilding public trust in both media and civic institutions, noting that journalism plays a critical role in sustaining an informed electorate.
