Transition to Slate: Phasing Out EAB Navigate
Update: Project Timeline
October 15, 2024
We are pleased to provide an update on the transition from EAB Navigate to Slate. This initiative will allow us to track student communications and data in one system, improving overall efficiency across campus. Each phase of this project will include design, testing, implementation, and training. For more information about this decision, please refer to the September SIU Today announcement.
Key Project Goals:
Replace EAB Navigate with Slate for all student communications and data management.
Streamline data feeds between Slate and Banner.
Centralize visibility of student communications across the university.
Project Timeline & Details:
Data Feed Enhancements
Completion by October 2024.
Relevant academic and registration data, including student academics, registration, grades, course catalog, and courses by instructor, will from be integrated into the data feed from Banner to Slate. This will allow us to replicate Navigate functionality in Slate.
Begin in January 2025; work will be ongoing.
- Additionally, we will be transitioning to Ethos integration for all data feeds from Banner to Slate. This new functionality will be available before the end of the year, and it will allow us to improve our existing feeds and allow for real time updates to and from Banner.
Advisement Appointments & Notes
Completion by December 2024.
- This phase will involve migrating advisement appointment scheduling and notes from Navigate to Slate, providing streamlined access for advisors and students. Advisors will receive training in January before appointment scheduling for Summer and Fall 2025 begins to ensure they are fully prepared.
Early Alerts & Dashboard
Completion by December 2024.
- We will implement a centralized alert system and a student overview dashboard to help faculty and staff track and address student progress effectively.
Progress Reports & Tutoring
Completion by April 2025.
Progress reports and tutoring scheduling functionalities will be moved into Slate, allowing for improved tracking of student academic support.
Throughout the spring semester, we will provide training for the rest of the campus to ensure a seamless transition for all users. We have also been tracking wish list items from campus stakeholders, and after the transition is complete by May 2025, we will continue to explore additional enhancements to meet the evolving needs of our community.
Thank you for your cooperation as we work together on this important initiative.

EAB Navigate to Slate Transition Team
Project Announcement
September 5, 2024
The Offices of Enrollment Management and the Provost would like to share an important update regarding the evolution of our enrollment management and student success systems.
An evaluation team was assembled consisting of representatives from Enrollment Management, SIU Global, Information Technology, Office of the Provost, Center for Teaching Excellence, and other campus partners. This team conducted a thorough assessment of overlapping functionality between Slate and EAB Navigate and consulted with current Navigate users, including Student Affairs, Academic Advisement, the Bursar Office, and University Core Curriculum.
After receiving input from these stakeholders and other university officials familiar with Slate, we have decided to fully transition to Slate and discontinue the use of EAB Navigate.
In addition to consolidating platforms, one of our key objectives is to streamline the communications sent to students. This will ensure that all communication is transparent and accessible, allowing the entire campus to view what students are receiving in one central location.
Key goals for this project include:
- Fully implementing the necessary functionality in Slate to replace Navigate.
- Streamlining the data feed between Slate and Banner for improved efficiency.
- Centralizing student communication visibility across campus.
- Our implementation team has been working diligently on this transition, prioritizing the development of essential functionality in Slate. Future projects will focus on enhancements to further support campus needs.
Thank you for your cooperation as we work together on this important initiative to improve our systems and better serve our students.
